Virtual Interior Design on the Gold Coast: How It Works

I didn't start The Interior Co to sell a look. I started it after years of staging homes and watching the same thing happen: people would fall in love with the house we'd dressed for sale, move on — and then sit in the new place wondering why it didn't feel like that anymore.

Why wait until you're selling to love your home?

If you're on the Gold Coast heading out of winter, that question lands differently. The light is changing. Rooms that felt fine in July start to look a bit heavy. You want the spaces you actually live in to feel lighter, more pulled together, more you. You don't need a renovation. You don't need a traditional designer on a running clock. You need a design concept you can follow at your own pace.

That's what virtual interior design is, when it's done properly.

What virtual interior design actually is

Virtual interior design is a full design concept, delivered without the months-long, hourly-rate studio model. We still talk. We still brief. We still design the room as a whole. What we don't do is leave you guessing what the invoice will do.

A standard Design Concept includes:

  • a free 15-minute discovery call
  • a design brief — onsite or by phone
  • mood boards and a layout
  • two revisions
  • a full product purchase list

Then you shop when it suits you. Or, if you'd rather not shop at all, we handle procurement, storage, delivery and install.

It is affordable interior design with a fixed cost. One room starts from $799. Standard virtual packages turn around in seven days or less.

Who this is for

This is for people who are staying. The living room that never quite landed. The bedroom that still feels like a leftover. The open-plan space that has furniture in it, but no cohesion.

It's also for people who already know what a well-designed home feels like — often because they staged to sell — and now want that feeling in the home they kept, or the one they just moved into. If you are preparing a house to sell, that's a different brief; Gold Coast Property Styling looks after that side.

And it's a genuine fit for Airbnb hosts and furnished rentals. Guest-ready doesn't have to mean generic.

It is not for someone who wants a designer to guess with no brief. And it isn't a luxury-only studio. High-street pieces and more elevated options sit on the same shopping list. You choose the spend. We hold the design together.

How the seven-day process works

1. Book a discovery call

Fifteen minutes. Free. We talk style, colours, how you live in the room, and what "done" looks like for you. No hard sell. If a Design Concept isn't the right fit, I'll say so.

Book the free 15-minute discovery call on the homepage, or call 0449 837 751.

2. The design brief

Onsite if that helps, or by phone if you're time-poor. Photos, measurements, the pieces you're keeping, the ones you're not. This is where a vague "I want it to feel nicer" becomes something we can actually design from.

3. Mood boards and layout

This is the part people think they can DIY with a screenshot folder. A mood board that works has to hold together in real Gold Coast light, with real proportions, against the furniture you're keeping. We design that at the studio: colour, texture, layout, the pieces that earn their place.

You get two revisions on the Design Concept. Enough to refine. Not so many that the project drifts.

4. Your shopping list — or we buy it for you

You leave with a full product purchase list. Shop at your own pace and price point. Replace the sofa this month, the lamp next, the art when you find the right one. The cohesion is already decided.

If you don't have the time or the appetite for that, Design & Full Procurement is the other path: we order (including wholesale discount), handle, store, deliver and install. Up to four revisions. Pricing is customised, because every procurement job is different.

What $799 a room actually includes

The Design Concept is the package most homeowners start with.

Design Concept — from $799 per room or space

  • Discovery call
  • Design brief, onsite or by phone
  • Mood boards
  • Two revisions
  • Full product purchase list

You take a hands-on approach. You purchase at your own pace. You still get a complete, bespoke design — not a template, and not a mood board with no way to buy it.

Design & Full Procurement — customised

  • Everything above, with up to four revisions
  • Ordering, handling, storage, delivery and installation

A spring refresh you can live in

August here is the hinge between winter and spring. That's usually a colour and cohesion problem, not a "rip it out" problem. A live-in refresh is different from dressing a house to sell. You're not emptying the personality out. You're deciding what stays, what goes, and what the room is actually for.

In Broadbeach, that meant nature-inspired colour against existing white walls — lively, not stark. In Main Beach, the brief was ocean-view living: deep blue, light timber, a room that lets the view do some of the work. At Hope Island, a family room needed to feel grown-up and still be a room a family could use — off-white sofa, olive swivel chairs, texture rather than clutter.

None of those started with a demolition. They started with a brief.

If you host: guest-ready, not hotel-generic

Airbnb interior design on the Gold Coast has a specific job. Guests need to know where to sleep, where to work, and that someone considered the place. Hosts need furniture that flexes — a sofa bed that doesn't look like a compromise, a foldable table, a bathroom that photographs clean and feels it.

We designed a Surfers Paradise Mantra apartment that way: coastal, calm, multifunctional. Sage, grey, a proper sofa bed, artwork instead of leftover fittings. Same virtual process. Different brief.

What you walk away with

A room that has a plan. Mood boards you can hold up against your actual walls. A layout that respects how you move through the space. A shopping list you can follow this month or over the next year.

That's the point of affordable elegance here. Not a showroom you can't afford to finish. A design you can live your way into.

If you want to see more of the work first, the project portfolio and our story are the place. When you're ready, book the free 15-minute discovery call, try the Instant Estimator, or send a note. Call 0449 837 751. Email works too: info@theinteriorco.com.au.

Frequently asked questions

How much does virtual interior design cost on the Gold Coast?

A Design Concept starts from $799 per room or space. That includes the discovery call, brief, mood boards, two revisions and a full product list. Full procurement is customised, because ordering and install change with the job.

How long does a virtual design take?

Standard virtual packages turn around in seven days or less. Custom procurement can take longer — stock, storage and installation have their own timeline.

Do I have to buy everything on the shopping list at once?

No. The Design Concept is built for self-paced shopping. We decide the cohesion first. The purchases can follow your budget.

Can you design an Airbnb, or a home I'm keeping after I move?

Yes. Both are regular briefs. If you're preparing a home to sell rather than live in, that's a staging conversation, not this one.
